OLD CELL PHONES WANTED
"Can you hear me now?" Our Boy Scout Troop 1001 is collecting old cell phones that are no longer needed and are just lying around the house. There is a large box just inside the entrance to Fellowship Hall into which you can drop your old phones. Again, there is no need for the phone to be working or even to have a battery. Just drop them into the box. No chargers or other attachments, please...just the phones. Thanks in advance for your support. |
CALLING ALL QUILTERS
The quilting group has resumed its regular schedule. Their next meeting date is February 17th. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of the month from
10:00 AM
to
2:00 PM
in Fellowship Hall. If you wish to join us, BRING YOUR LUNCH. This ministry provides quilts for anyone that might be going through times of need, as well as, quilts for giving thanks. The quilt becomes a part of the recipient's home, as do the prayers that go with the quilt - the prayers signified by the knots that we tie on the quilt during our times of prayer. If you know of someone in need of a prayer quilt, please call Barbara Plough at 488-5063.
Giving a quilt is a special way to let someone know that they are loved. |
CARE GRAMS
During Coffee Hour, please sign the Care Grams whether you know the recipient or not. This is just a little way we can let the ill know that they
are not forgotten and it will lift their spirits. |
CEMETERY NEWS
The Jesse Knight Cemetery Committee would like to invite you to be a part of the cemetery committee. They meet the first Wednesday of every month at 9:00 a.m. at the cemetery on Colonia Lane. They meet every Wednesday morning at 7:15 - 8:30 a.m. to help maintain the cemetery grounds. This is a wonderful group of dedicated people and would welcome you to become a part of this very worthwhile mission of the church. |
CHILDREN'S CHURCH
The children in children’s church have been bringing in offering all summer for the Heifer Project. With all the money turned in and counted, I have exciting news!!! We had a goal of purchasing a Llama, we met that goal and had enough left over to purchase a flock of chicks and a hive of bees! We were so excited to know that we are able to help people somewhere in the world have a better life.
We now are saving for HOOI (Homeless Orphan Outreach Inc. in the Dominican Republic). It is wonderful to teach children about the importance of Mission Outreach.

CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES
Contribution envelopes are still in the Narthex. Please look for yours if you haven't already picked them up. |
E.P.I.C. PUPPET TEAM
We are doing great. The new puppeteers are truly committed. The Senior puppeteers are so wonderful in mentoring. Chris Greene, Bev Miller and I are so proud of our team. Travis Rose is invaluable as sound man and Millie Rose is there every week to help in every way. This is a wonderful outreach ministry. In His Service, Robin Deegan |
FLOWERS FOR THE SANCTUARY
Every Sunday you have an opportunity to provide flowers for the Worship Services. The cost is $35.00 for the two altar arrangements and $17.50 for a chancel arrangement. These may be done in honor or memory of a loved one, a wedding anniversary, birthday, ect. Call the Church Office and see if the date you want is available. This is another way to help lower the expenses of the Church. If a date isn't reserved then the Church must pay for the flowers that day. |
FOOD PANTRY
Please continue to bring your non-perishable foods to Church on Sunday or drop them off in the Church Office during the week. |
|
GOD'S RAINBOW OF LOVE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM |
The children of God's Rainbow of Love are studying "The Lord's Prayer." Each week we will take a small part and break it down so hopefully they will not only memorize it, but understand it as well.
We have been invited back to the National Day of Prayer at the Gazebo in Venice on Thursday, May 6th. Mark your calendar TODAY for this wonderful ecumernical event.
We will be singing at the worship service on Sunday, February 21st.
Please continue to pray for these children and their families.
In His Service,
Robin Deegan |

MUSIC MINSTRY
NEWS FROM LINDA PETERSON
On March 21, Pastor McWhinnie and our music department will be joining together to present a concert during the regular worship services. The concert will feature our sanctuary choir and hand bell choirs, as well as, brass quartet. I will also be playing recitals at the Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota on March 17 at noon & the Venice Presbyterian Church on March 24 at noon, and all are invited to attend. Our organ work has been moved to after Easter. It will greatly change how the organ is used in worship, as I will be able to play every humn verse with a different sound from the others (to better reflect the text) as well as use solo sounds (flute, oboe, ect.) rather than being limited to choruses that cover up dead notes. this should also allow for more worshipful music. |
YOUR INVITATION TO BECOME A MEMBER OF VNUMC
In our United Methoidst tradition, people can join as either Full Members of this United Methodist congregation or they can join as Associate Members, enabling our seasonal residents to retain official memberships in both their summer and winter congregations. If you would like further information, please call the Chruch Office at 488-4137. |
PRAYER QUILT MINISTRY
From time to time, Pastor McWhinnie will be presenting at the altar a new quilt made by our Quilters with a particular recipient in mind. Members of the congregation will be invited to come to the altar to tie a knot in the quilt and utter a prayer in behalf of the intended receiver. It is believed that these prayers will then be literally bound into the fabric of the quilt as the knots are tied, uniting the givers and receivers in a bond between all the children of God. |
PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY
In honor of our active duty military a bulletin board, located in the breezeway next to the Sanctuary, is available on which you can display a picture (in or out of uniform) and a brief description of your family member or friend. The picture should be no larger than a 4 x 6. Please give the name, rank, and location of deployment. Let's stand behind our men and women, pray for them and support their dedication to our country. Pictures may be sent to or brought to Rita Labadie or the Church Office. |

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen

We sincerely thank the Endowment Fund for helping us become "high tech."
FAMILIES NEED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

TRUSTEES UPDATE
Thanks to the mechanical efforts of Wayne Woodbery and John Boles, the Sanctuary once agian has a drinking fountain. It is located in the old office area, near Linda's office. Just go through the door nearest the Pulpit and turn left. This water is cold and you don't need to fumble with cups. Kile's hardware provided the water cooler at cost. Kile's also gives VNUMC a discount on all supplies. Our church building is a 40 year old house, so you can imagine that the men are buying supplies almost every Monday.
New Solar Electric
Thanks to the generosity of Mike and Nancy Wilsom and Mirasol Fafco Solar, a 230 watt solar electric panel will be installed on the parsonage roof. This will provide VNUMC with free power whenever the sun shines and even this small wattage will add up over time. This single panel will generate about 1,000 kw a year which saves the equivalent of one-half of a normal month's usage. Mirasol provided the solar panel as a gift to the church and the Wilson's provided the electrical wiring sufficient for up to 16 panels. Anyone who wishes to add a panel to the parsonage can do so for a gift to the church of $1,840.

HAVE FUN - JOIN A SEWING CIRCLE
Get out those machines stored in your closets. You don't have a sewing machine? That's OK. You can't sew? That's OK, too. You can cut with scissors and do basting with a thread? That will work just fine. Alice Hays, the "whiz seamstress" will help us with all we need to know. Our first project will be to make spring clothing for our boys and girls on the Navajo Reservation. Sign up in the Church Office if interested. |
WINTER IS HERE!
They need hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, ect.to help keep everyone snug as a bug in a rug. The New Beginnings Program is so appreciative of the items you have faithfully been sending, and are anxiously awaiting our donations. |
YOUTH GROUP
The Youth Group has just finished a study about five missionaries who were killed in 1956 in the Amazon by a very savage tribe. Every one of the men had a riveting story, but we concentrated on Nate Sairet and his heart breaking and heart warming story. We watched the movie “The End of the Spear.” It is amazing to see how Almighty God takes a horrible tragedy and turns it into something absolutely wonderful!
We are blessed to have such a great group of young people in our UMYF. Please continue to pray for them and their families daily.
