  Music Ministry

sanctuary choir

Psalm 95: 1-2 (RSV)

O come let us sing for joy to the LORD;
Let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation!
Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!

Our Music Ministry is an essential part of the worship experience and we place a great deal of value in its role. Music can lift our spirits, heal emotional wounds, and inspire us.

Psalm 89:1
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever.

Our choice of music is eclectic. The people of our church have widely varying tastes, and we attempt to have something for everyone. There is no requirement for participation - all levels of skill and experience are welcome. In addition to our various music groups, we encourage congregational singing of both hymns and responses.

Currently, we have five groups: the Sanctuary Choir, Handbell Choir, Joyful Singers, Contemporary Ensemble, and Liturgical Dance Ensemble. There is also an extensive ministry of soloists, vocal and instrumental as well as small ensembles.

Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir provides anthems for the worship service, along with leading the congregation in singing hymns and responses. We meet in the Choir Room from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings. All are welcome. We sing every Sunday and for most special services such as Christmas and Holy Week.

Joyful Singers
The Joyful Singers consist of the children who participate in our after-school program, God's Rainbow of Love, which meets on Wednesdays during the school year. We have time set aside for music each Wednesday and sing in church once a month throughout the school year. We also put on two music programs a year: a Christmas program and a End of the Year program, plus we sing at other church functions, such as, our regular pizza dinners for young families. We have sung in the Venice World Day of Prayer and gone Christmas caroling.

Hand Bell Choir
The Hand Bell Choir meets at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. All levels of experience are represented. We play once or twice a month in church and for many special serives. Again, all are welcome to participate.

Contemporary Ensemble
The Contemporary Ensemble, a new addition to our music team, enriches our worship experience with newer music.

Liturgical Dance Ensemble
The Liturgical Dance Ensemble, also a new addition, will provide us with a more visual form of worship enrichment.

All the above programs and opportunities for soloists and ensembles are open to all. Snow birds are also welcome during the time they are in the community. For more information, please contact our Music Director, Linda Petersen.

Pipe Organ
In 1989, VNUMC purchased and rebuilt a 36 rank Moeller-Helms Pipe Organ for our Sanctuary. It took several years for us to complete the task, a labor of love by many members of our congregation. We are now in the middle of an extensive renovation which will bring ther organ to its full potential.
