| The Bible is God’s written word to man and He does speak to us on a personal level when we read it. The word Bible comes from the Greek word biblia, which means little books. It was written over a period of 1,600 years in many different places including Palestine, Babylon, Egypt, Rome, and Corinth under many different circumstances. The Bible contains history, law, letters, stories, sermons, poetry, prayers, speeches, and riddles. Its authors were both educated and uneducated, Jewish and Gentiles, and included men who were tax collectors, kings, statesmen, peasants, doctors, fishermen, prophets, philosophers, and poets. “Although the Bible had so many authors it is ONE book, telling only ONE story - the story about Jesus Christ and His promise of everlasting life. If you read the Bible from beginning to end as you would any modern day novel you will see how the different books, each with their own message, are related and in unity with one another. It was written so that we might believe and understand, know, and love, and follow Christ.” ¹ |
