The Names of God

In Biblical times, a name represented a person�s character. Learning the different
names of God will help to increase your understanding of God�s character, attributes,
and His nature. Addressing God by His different names is a wonderful way to
enhance your prayers.

Elohim: (el-o-heem') God, the Creator

El Elyon: (el el-yone') Most High God

El Roi: (el-ro'-ee) God of Seeing

El Shaddai: (el shad-di') Lord God the Almighty, All-Sufficient

Adonai: (a-do-ni') The Lord, Master

Jehovah: (je-ho'vah) The Self-Existent, Covenant-Keeping God

Jehovah Jireh: (yir-eh') The Lord will Provide

Jehovah Rapha: (raw-faw') The Lord that Heals

Jehovah Nissi: (nis-see') The Lord My Banner

Jehovah Mekoddishkem: (m-qa-dash) The Lord Sanctifies You

The Names of Jesus

The name Jesus comes from the Greek word Joshua meaning God is Salvation.
There are more than 500 different names in the Bible used to describe Jesus
and the New Testament contains 154 of them. The most frequently used name
for Jesus is Son of Man. It appears 82 times in the New Testament. Son of Man
is used to represent the humanity of Jesus, as compared to Son of God, which
signifies His divinity. Jesus means "the Lord saves." In Hebrew, Messiah means
�anointed one.�
