The Merry Methodists are a group of
adults 55 and older who meet on a regular
basis to share God’s love, enjoy Christian fellowship,
inspirational programs,
and different activities covering a wide range of interests.
They are a diverse,
friendly, and fun group of people consisting of Church members
and their
constituents, married couples, singles, and winter residents.
The Merry Methodists enjoy day trips to various Florida
attractions, concerts,
theatre, an annual weeklong trip out of state or a cruise, and
lunches at
different restaurants. Occasionally, the Merry Methodist offers
a “Mystery
Trip.” The locations of these trips are never announced until
the bus arrives
at the scheduled destination. The events are fun, interesting,
and educational.
A picnic at the beach is held each spring at the North Jetties
in Nokomis. A
business/luncheon meeting is held annually to elect officers.
The program
runs from September through April.

Popular destinations for our annual
weeklong trips have included visits to
Atlanta, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, St. Simon Island, Savannah,
Charleston,
Branson, and Myrtle Beach. We have taken cruises to the Eastern
and
Western Caribbean, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. The Merry
Methodists
has also visited our Methodist Conference Centers at Simpsonwood
in Georgia,
and Lake Junaluska in North Carolina. Two of our biggest
adventures included
a tour of seven New England States to see the fall leaves and a
tour of several
Western National Parks in the United States.
