EPIC stands for Evangelizing Puppeteers
In Christ. The Puppet Team’s main
function is to present a fun and colorful environment for the
children participating
in Children’s Church to learn about God’s Love through singing,
discussions,
and drama. They perform each Sunday except for the first Sunday
of each
month due to Holy Communion.
The Puppet Team also gives presentations to other churches,
nursing homes,
assisted living facilities, and at various functions throughout
the community
including the annual Venice Holiday Parade where they have been
awarded
the Grand Marshall’s Trophy. They have also traveled to a
migrant work camp
and performed to an all Spanish speaking audience. The goal in
all the Puppet
Team’s presentations is to honor God. The Puppet’s are a unique
and wonderful
Ministry enjoyed by all ages.

Each year we participate in Regional
Puppet Festivals. In 1999, 2000, and
2001 our Puppet Team won a GOLD Medal for their presentation at
the Western
Florida Puppetry Festival. In 1999, the Puppet Team also
received the following
honors: The People’s Choice Award, Outstanding Use of Props &
Scenery, and
Outstanding Originality.
In 2001, our Puppet Team received the “Best Use of a Theme”
award for “His
Plans, Our Hands.” The song performed was entitled “Hands and
Feet” which
is about getting involved with missions. The inspiration behind
this idea came
from several of our Puppeteers who had been to the Dominican
Republic on
a mission trip to help several orphanages known as HOOI.

Most of the costumes and props we use are
designed and made by the
adult leaders, as well as, by the Puppeteers themselves. Our
presentations
are enhanced by the high quality light and sound system we have
installed.
In 2002, we added a new sound system designed specifically for
our traveling
performances.
The Puppets rehearse from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday
throughout
the year. We currently have over 10 youth, ranging from 6th to
12th grades,
involved in this exciting ministry.
