                                                  Bible Facts

The Bible is God’s written word to man and He does speak to us on a personal
level when we read it. The word Bible comes from the Greek word biblia, which
means little books. It was written over a period of 1,600 years in many different
places including Palestine, Babylon, Egypt, Rome, and Corinth under many
different circumstances. The Bible contains history, law, letters, stories,
sermons, poetry, prayers, speeches, and riddles.

Its authors were both educated and uneducated, Jewish and Gentiles, and
included men who were tax collectors, kings, statesmen, peasants, doctors,
fishermen, prophets, philosophers, and poets. “Although the Bible had so
many authors it is ONE book, telling only ONE story - the story about Jesus
Christ and His promise of everlasting life. If you read the Bible from beginning
to end as you would any modern day novel you will see how the different books,
each with their own message, are related and in unity with one another. It was
written so that we might believe and understand, know, and love, and follow
Christ.” 1

The Bible is the world’s best-selling book however; it generally is the least read
book in a household. In a sermon, by one of our ministers, the congregation was
asked the following question: “Would you be more upset about someone coming
into your house and taking away your Internet Service and computer or your Bible?”
What would your answer be?

 Middle Verse
Psalms 118 is between the shortest and longest chapters of the Bible. There
are exactly 594 chapters before and after Psalms 118. Does this verse say
something significant about God’s perfect will for our lives? The next time
someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their life and that
they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His
Word! Psalms 118:8 reads: “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put
confidence in man.”
