The United Methodist Women of our Church founded a consignment shop
in 1962 that continues to operate today. It was created to be a community
outreach program to help the needy. The consignment shop is named "The
Bargain Center" and is located in beautiful downtown Venice, Florida.
The shop operates with a staff of more than 152 church and non-church
volunteers. It takes a total of 616 volunteer working hours per month to keep
the shop open 6 days per week. The Bargain Center is a member of the
Venice MainStreet Organization. The income generated from the shop has
been used towards church and mission related projects.
All consignments that are unsold after 30-days of placement automatically
become the property of Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church. The
Bargain Center continues to try and sell these donations for an additional
30 days. After the 60-day period has expired the items are given to other
charities.
Consignments are accepted on Monday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to
11:00 a.m. It costs $4.00 to open an account per year and consignors receive
60% of the sale price. A charge of $1.00 is deducted per month for postage
and handling for any checks mailed to consignees. The Bargain Center
accepts women's clothing, belts, handbags, hats, jewelry, pictures, dishes,
toys, puzzles, and other household items. No electronic equipment shoes,
books, records, tapes, cameras, or men clothing items are accepted.
The Bargain Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. These hours are applicable from October 1st through May 31st.
The shop closes at 1:00 p.m. everyday from June 1st through September 30th.
